Round 1: The Foundation

1. To begin, make a slip knot.
2. Then, chain 12.
3. After your chain of 12, in the second chain from your hook (count one, two), make a half double crochet (HDC) in the next ten stitches.
4. In the very last chain, you are going to make three half double crochets, all in that same last chain. This creates the rounded end of the sole.
5. Now, we’ll be working on the opposite side of the chain. Make 10 half double crochets in the next 10 stitches.
6. After that last stitch, slip stitch (SL ST) into the very first stitch you made in this round.
7. Chain one (CH 1).

Round 2: Shaping the Sole

1. To start Round 2, make one half double crochet in the same stitch as your chain.
2. Then, make one half double crochet in the next nine stitches.
3. For the next part, you are going to HDC increase in the next three stitches. This means you will put two half double crochets in each of the next three stitches.
4. You are now going to make one half double crochet in the next nine stitches across.
5. In the last stitch, you are going to add a HDC increase, so add two half double crochets in that very last stitch.
6. Then, slip stitch to the first stitch you made in that round.
7. Once that’s complete, chain one, and you have successfully completed Round 2!

Round 3: Expanding the Sole

1. To start Round 3, put a HDC increase in the same stitch you’re starting in. So, you’ll add two half double crochets to that first stitch.
2. You are going to increase as well in the next stitch, so add two half double crochets to the second stitch as well.
3. You will then continue on, making nine half double crochets across, one in each stitch.
4. Next, you will be HDC increasing in the next six stitches.
5. Continue along the opposite side, making nine half double crochets across.
6. In the last two stitches, you are going to HDC increase in both stitches.
7. Go ahead and make your slip stitch and then your chain one. Congratulations, you have now finished the sole of the shoe!

Preparing for the Sides

At this point, you can go ahead and cut off any excess tail from your starting chain. We’ll move on to Round 4 to begin building the sides of the booties.

Round 4: Creating the Base of the Bootie

1. In Round 4, we will be working in the back loop only (BLO) of each stitch. This creates a neat ridge that helps shape the bootie.
2. You’re going to start in the stitch where your chain is made.
3. Make one half double crochet in each stitch around. Remember to work these half double crochets in the back loop only of Round 3.
4. Slip stitch into that first stitch you made.
5. That completes Round 4, and then chain one. This is what Round 4 will look like when it’s finished, forming the clean base of your bootie.

Round 5: Beginning the Toe Shaping

1. Now, make one half double crochet in that first stitch where your chain is at.
2. Then, make one half double crochet in the next 12 stitches.
3. Next, we are going to half double crochet decrease (HDC DEC) seven times. To do this: yarn over, insert hook into stitch, pull up a loop (3 loops on hook); yarn over, insert hook into next stitch, pull up a loop (5 loops on hook); yarn over and pull through all 5 loops. You’re going to make seven decreases in a row across the toe area.
4. To finish off Round 5, make one half double crochet in the next 11 stitches.
5. Then, slip stitch into that first stitch and chain one. That is the end of Round 5, and you’ll see the toe beginning to form!

Round 6: More Toe Shaping

1. To start Round 6, make one half double crochet in that same stitch as your chain.
2. Then, make one half double crochet in the next 11 stitches.
3. You are now going to half double crochet decrease five times.
4. Then, you will make one half double crochet over the next nine stitches.
5. Add that slip stitch, and then your chain one. That finishes Round 6. You’ll see the toe narrowing further.

Round 7: Final Toe Shaping

1. For Round 7, make one half double crochet in that same stitch as your chain.
2. Then, you will make one half double crochet in the next 12 stitches.
3. Next, we are going to half double crochet decrease two times.
4. Now, you will make one half double crochet in the next nine stitches.
5. Make that last slip stitch there and chain one. That finishes Round 7. We have just one round left to go! The toe is now beautifully shaped.

Round 8: The Ankle Cuff

1. For Round 8, we are going to be single crocheting (SC) one in each stitch around. This creates a neat, finished edge for the ankle cuff.
2. So, just single crochet all the way around until you get back to the beginning.
3. Make that very last slip stitch to join the round.

Finishing Touches

1. At this point, we will cut your yarn, leaving a tail of about 6-8 inches, and pull it through your loop to secure.
2. Then, take your yarn needle and weave it through the stitches of the booty so that the yarn end is hidden and secure, ensuring it does not come apart.
3. Now, go ahead and snip off any remaining excess yarn with your scissors.
