Crochet a Tulip Bookmark: Free Pattern

Materials
- A little cotton yarn in light pink, bright pink, and green
- Hook No. 2
Yarn Note: The bookmark presented in this pattern uses Rene (Alpina), Sharm (Vita Cotton), and Lily of the Valley (Troitsk factory) cotton yarns. You can use other cotton yarns or even acrylic or semi-wool, but avoid steaming the finished bookmark if using acrylic or semi-wool to prevent shape distortion.
Abbreviations
- CH – Chain stitch
- SC – Single crochet
- INC – Increase (knit two single crochet stitches into one stitch)
- DEC – Decrease (two loops must be made into one – combine two loops)
- t/r – Turn the work
Instructions
1. Flower Base
Using light pink yarn.
- Cast on 16 chain stitches.
- Starting from the second stitch from the hook, knit the base of the flower with single crochet stitches according to the following:
Row 1: 14 SC, INC (total 16 stitches), chain 1, turn the work;
Row 2: 14 SC, DEC (15 sts), CH 1, t/r;
Row 3: DEC, 12 SC, INC (15 sts), CH 1, t/r;
Row 4: 13 SC, DEC (14 sts), CH 3, t/r;
Row 5: 15 SC, INC (17 sts), CH 1, t/r;
Row 6: 16 SC, INC (18 sts), CH 2, t/r;
Row 7: 19 SC, CH 1, t/r;
Row 8: 17 SC, DEC (18 sts), CH 1, t/r;
Row 9: DEC, 16 SC (17 sts), CH 1, t/r;
Row 10: DEC, 12 SC, DEC (14 sts), CH 2 (leave the last stitch of the row unknitted), t/r;
Row 11: 15 SC, CH 1, t/r;
Row 12: DEC, 12 SC, INC (15 sts), CH 2, t/r;
Row 13: 14 SC, DEC (15 sts).
Cut the thread.


2. Edging the Flower
Using bright pink yarn, single crochet around the blank.
- First, crochet around the middle petal. Attach the thread between the petals, chain one and crochet 4-5 single crochet stitches on the side of the petal. Then, at the top of the petal, crochet 3 SC in one point and crochet around the second side, doing 4-5 SC. Cut the thread.
- Attaching the yarn in the middle of the lower part of the flower, knit the dividing lines of the petals, pulling the loops through the fabric of the piece and knitting.
- Then, single crochet around the sides of the flower, making 3 SC in one point at the top of each of the two side petals.




3. Stem
Using green yarn.
- Cast on 60 chain stitches.
- Starting from the second stitch from the hook, knit 58 SC.
- Then make 4 SC in the last stitch of the chain.
- Continue working on the opposite side of the chain, knitting 58 SC.
- Cut the thread, leaving a long end for sewing.




4. Leaves (Make 2)
Using green yarn.
- Cast on 26 chain stitches.
- Starting from the second stitch from the hook, crochet around the chain on both sides: slip stitch, 2 SC, 4 half double crochet, 11 double crochet, 4 half double crochet, 2 SC, in the last stitch of the chain knit – slip stitch, CH 2, slip stitch.
- Continue working on the opposite side of the chain: 2 SC, 4 half double crochet, 11 double crochet, 4 half double crochet, 2 SC, slip stitch.
- Cut the thread, leaving a long end for sewing.





5. Assembling the Bookmark
- Sew the stem to the wrong side of the flower.
- Sew the leaves to the stem.



6. Finishing Touches
If the bookmark is made of cotton, iron it through a damp cloth.
