Abbreviations (US Terms)

  • MR: Magic Ring
  • sc: single crochet
  • inc: increase (2 sc in one stitch)
  • dec: decrease (2 sc worked together)
  • ch: chain

1. The Body

Using beige yarn, we will work in continuous rounds to create the round pug body.

  • Round 1: 6 sc in MR (6)
  • Round 2: 6 inc (12)
  • Round 3: (1 sc, inc) x 6 (18)
  • Round 4: (2 sc, inc) x 6 (24)
  • Round 5: (3 sc, inc) x 6 (30)

  • Round 6: (4 sc, inc) x 6 (36)
  • Round 7: (5 sc, inc) x 6 (42)
  • Rounds 8-20: 42 sc (13 rows total)

  • Round 21: (5 sc, dec) x 6 (36)
  • Round 22: (4 sc, dec) x 6 (30)
  • Round 23: 30 sc. (Stop here and stuff the body firmly with fiberfill!)
  • Round 24: (3 sc, dec) x 6 (24)
  • Round 25: (2 sc, dec) x 6 (18)
  • Round 26: (1 sc, dec) x 6 (12)
  • Round 27: 6 dec.

Cut the thread, leaving a short tail. Use a needle to weave through the front loops of the last 6 stitches to close the opening. Secure and hide the yarn tail inside the body.

2. The Ears (Make 2)

Using brown yarn, we will work in rows to create flat triangular ears.

  • Foundation: Chain 5.
  • Rows 1-3: Starting from the 2nd chain from the hook, 4 sc, ch 1, turn. (4)
  • Row 4: 1 sc, dec, 1 sc, ch 1, turn. (3)
  • Row 5: dec, 1 sc, ch 1, turn. (2)
  • Row 6: dec. (1)
  • Finishing: Single crochet (sc) evenly around the entire edge of the ear to give it a clean border. Leave a long tail for sewing.

3. The Muzzle

Using brown yarn, create a small circular detail.

  • 6 sc in MR.
  • Important: Do not join the ring into a circle with a slip stitch. Keep it slightly open if needed for the shape. Leave a long tail for sewing.

4. The Paws (Make 2)

Using brown yarn.

  • Foundation: Chain 3.
  • Row 1: Starting from the 2nd chain from the hook, 2 sc.
  • Fasten off, leaving a tail to attach to the bottom of the body.

5. Assembly & Finishing

Now it’s time to bring your Mopsosharik to life! Follow these steps to assemble the pieces:

  • Face Detail: Cut a small oval or heart-like shape from brown felt. Glue it to the center of the face.
  • Muzzle: Sew the crocheted muzzle on top of the felt piece.

  • Eyes: Glue the safety eyes onto the felt. If you like, add a tiny sliver of white felt behind the eye for a “soulful” look.
  • Ears: Sew the ears to the top sides of the body, usually between rounds 4 and 7.

  • Paws: Sew the small paws to the bottom front of the body so your pug can sit properly.
