Adding a Touch of Green: The Leaves
Now for a pop of color! The leaves provide a lovely contrast. Choose any green you like – soft, vibrant, dark, or even lime!
Attaching Green Yarn & Creating Leaf Arches
- Make a slip knot with your green yarn, leaving a 4-inch tail.
- Insert your hook into the second stitch after any chain-1 space along the edge of your blanket.
- Place the loop on your hook and pull through. Slip stitch using both the working yarn and the tail to secure it (crochet over the tail for a few stitches).
- Ch 3.
- Skip 2 stitches. Sc into the next stitch. Ch 3.
- Repeat from * to * all the way around the circle. (Remember, a Ch-1 space counts as a stitch to be skipped).
- To finish: Ch 3, then Sl St into the very first stitch where you joined the green yarn (or the base of the first Ch-3).
Shaping the Leaves
Each leaf is worked into a Ch-3 arch.
- Into the first Ch-3 space: Sc, Ch 5.
- Sl St into the 2nd chain from the hook.
- Sc into the next chain.
- Hdc into the next chain.
- Dc into the last chain of the Ch-5.
- Ch 1, Sl St back into that same last chain (creates the leaf point).
- Sc back into the same Ch-3 space on the blanket edge to anchor the leaf.
- Repeat steps 1-7 in each Ch-3 space around the circle.
