Free Fluffy Pop-eyed Bullfinch Crochet Pattern!
Hello, dear craftswoman (master)! If you’ve opened this master class, it means you’re ready to create your own adorable Bullfinch from the “Pop-eyed New Year” series!

Materials and Tools
- Plush Yarn: Black, white, red, and orange (approx. 100 gr./120 m each). (Author uses Wolans Banny Baby colors 01, 67, 25, 10, 06).
- Glue-on Eyes: 8 mm or 10 mm.
- Stuffing: Syntheball or similar fiberfill.
- Crochet Hook: 3 mm – 3.5 mm. (Author uses Clover 3.25 mm).
- Scissors
- Glue: For attaching eyes (Author uses “Moment Gel”).
- Tapestry Needle: Or wide-eye needle for cinching and weaving in ends.
- Eyelashes: A small piece (optional).
Abbreviations
- sc: single crochet
- hdc: half double crochet
- dc: double crochet
- PS: puff stitch (4 hdc with one peak in one stitch)
- ch: chain stitch
- MR: magic ring
- Red text: Crochet according to the description with red yarn.
- Orange text: Crochet according to the description with orange yarn.
- BLO: back loop only (back loop of the stitch)
- FLO: front loop only (front loop of the stitch)
Crochet Instructions: Bullfinch Body
We’ll start crocheting the body from bottom to top, alternating black and red colors.

- Round 1 (Black): 6 sc in MR (6 stitches)
- Round 2 (Black): 6 inc (12 stitches)
- Round 3 (Black): 1 sc, inc, 1 sc, (inc, 1 sc)*3, inc, 1 sc, inc (18 stitches)
- Round 4 (Red):
- Tail (FLO): In one stitch: sl st, 3 ch, 3 dc, 3 ch, sl st.
- Then continue with: 4 sc, 1 sc, PS, 4 sc, PS, 1 sc, 5 sc (18 stitches)
- Round 5 (Red):
- 1 sc in BLO of the 3rd row (this helps shape the body).
- Then continue with: 4 sc, 8 sc, 5 sc (18 stitches)
- Round 6 (Red):
- 5 sc, Wing: (4 ch, from 2nd st from hook: sl st, 2 sc).
- Then continue with: 8 sc, Wing: (4 ch, from 2nd st from hook: sl st, 2 sc).
- Then continue with: 5 sc (18 stitches)
- Round 7 (Red):
- 6 sc, 3 sc, Beak (Orange yarn): (3 ch, from 2nd st from hook: 2 sl st).
- Then continue with: 3 sc, 6 sc (18 stitches)
- Round 8 (White): 8 sc, 2 PS (puff stitches) in white, 8 sc (18 stitches)
- Round 9 (White): (1 sc, dec)*6 (12 stitches)
- Stuffing: Firmly stuff your bullfinch with fiberfill.
- Round 10 (White): 6 dec. If you don’t want to make a crest, cinch the opening closed.
Finishing Touches
- Crest (Optional):
- Fold the opening from Round 10 in half.
- If necessary, make 1-2 sc to shift the fold perfectly centered.
- Crochet through both halves of the folded opening: (4 ch, sl st)*2, then sl st.
- Cut and secure the yarn. Hide the yarn tail inside the toy with a needle.
- Eyes: Glue the eyes onto the white puff stitches (PS) you made in Round 8.
- Eyelashes: Add eyelashes if desired.
- Gap between PS: If there’s a small hole between the white puff stitches, carefully tighten it with a thin piece of yarn using your tapestry needle.
