These boot cuffs were specially designed for Darla’s rain boots to protect her calves during her outdoor adventures this spring and summer. Last year, her boots caused some uncomfortable welts, so I created these cuffs to ensure that doesn’t happen again.

Pattern Details

  • Fit: Toddler/Small Child (8″ calf, 4.5″ length)
  • Hook Size: 5.50 mm (I)
  • Yarn Type: Worsted Weight Yarn (e.g., Red Heart Super Saver, Bernat Super Value Yarn, or Craft Smart Yarn)

  • R = row
  • R = round
  • fhdc = foundationless half double crochet
  • ch = chain
  • fpdc = front post double crochet
  • bpdc = back post double crochet
  • sc = single crochet
  • st = stitch
  • sts = stitches
  • sl st = slip stitch
  • dc = double crochet

Rainy Day Boot Cuffs Pattern (Toddler/Small Child Size)

R1: 26 fhdc
R2: Ch 1, turn, 1 sc in each st across, sl st to the first sc of the row (26)

Now continue working in rounds:

R3: Ch 2, (fpdc around the first st, bpdc around the next st) repeat around; work the final bpdc around both the last st and the initial ch 2, sl st to the first fpdc to join (26)
R4 – R6: Ch 2, (fpdc around the first st, bpdc around the next st) repeat around; work the final bpdc around both the last st and the initial ch 2, sl st to the first fpdc to join (26)
R7 – R10: Ch 2, dc in each st around, sl st to the initial dc of the round (26)
R11: 1 sc in each st around, sl st to join, finish off (26)

Repeat the pattern for the second cuff.
