  • Needle: Size U.S. 50 (25 mm) Circular knitting needle, 40″ [101.5 cm] long, or the size required to obtain the specified gauge.

Measurements

Once completed, your Bernat Basket-Weavy Knit Blanket will approximately measure 40 inches [101.5 cm] in width by 45 inches [114.5 cm] in length.

Gauge

Achieving the correct gauge is crucial for the finished blanket to match the intended dimensions. The required gauge for this pattern is:

  • 2.5 stitches (sts) and 3.5 rows = 4 inches [10 cm] in stocking stitch (st).
Important Note on Gauge: We highly recommend creating a swatch to check your gauge before beginning the main project. Adjust your needle size if necessary to achieve the correct stitch and row count per 4 inches. If your swatch has more stitches than the gauge, try a larger needle. First Set of Rows (Shifting Pattern Block 1):

These rows create the initial texture of the basketweave.

  1. 1st row (RS): Sl1Pwyib. K4. *(P1. K1) twice. P1. K5. Rep from * to end of row.
  2. 2nd row: Sl1Pwyif. P4. *(K1. P1) twice. K1. P5. Rep from * to end of row.
  3. 3rd row: Sl1Pwyib. K4. *(K1. P1) twice. K6. Rep from * to end of row.
  4. 4th row: Sl1Pwyif. P4. *(P1. K1) twice. P6. Rep from * to end of row.
  5. 5th to 10th rows: Repeat rows 1 through 4 once more, then repeat rows 1 and 2 once more. This completes the first 10 rows of the pattern.

Second Set of Rows (Shifting Pattern Block 2):

These rows introduce the shifted basketweave effect, creating the alternating texture.
