Star, Superstar, or Supernova? Which is Right for You?
Betty McKnit has designed a whole galaxy of star blankets! Here’s a quick guide:
- 6-Day Star Blanket (This Pattern!): The original star with seven points. It’s the easiest of the three and the perfect starting point for your 6-Day Crochet journey.

Gather Your Supplies
This pattern is fantastic for using up your stash! Here’s what you’ll need to create your own 6 day star blanket crochet pattern.
- Yarn: This pattern shines with almost any yarn.
- DK Weight (#3): Approx. 1600 yards for a 40″ baby blanket.
- Worsted Weight (#4): Approx. 1500 yards for a 40″ baby blanket. (Caron Cupcakes work beautifully!)
- Crochet Hooks: You’ll want two sizes. Start with the hook size recommended on your yarn label, and have one that is 0.5mm larger and another 1.0mm larger on hand. The key is to prevent curling in the initial rounds. Don’t be afraid to go up a hook size!
- Stitch Markers: Essential for marking the beginning of your round to avoid adding extra stitches.
- Scissors & Yarn Needle: For finishing your beautiful project.

Round 7: ch 1, sc in same st and each st around, making 4 sc in center st of each 5-dc peak. Join with sl st to first sc.
Continue repeating Rounds 2-7 for the pattern. A baby blanket typically needs about 3 repeats, and a throw size needs about 5 repeats after the setup.
Finishing
For a clean, professional edge, work one round of reverse single crochet (rsc) around the blanket. If you notice any ruffling, simply skip a stitch every 4-5 stitches to keep it flat.
