Special Stitches Guide

These are the special stitches that give the blanket its signature look. Take a moment to familiarize yourself with them. The Flower stitch is the most complex, so we’ve broken it down step-by-step!

V-st (V-stitch):
(1 dc, ch 2, 1 dc) all in the indicated stitch.

Picot:
Ch 3, sl st into the top of the last stitch made.

Flower:
The Flower stitch is a multi-step stitch that creates a beautiful, five-petal bloom. It’s worked into and around a V-stitch.

  1. Start: Make a V-st in the indicated stitch.
  2. Petal 1: Ch 3. Work 2 dc around the post of the second dc of the V-st you just made.
  3. Petal 2: Ch 3. In the same ch-2 space of the V-st, work (sl st, ch 3, 2 dc).
  4. Petal 3: Ch 3. Sl st in the sc that is between the two “legs” of the V-st below.
  5. Petal 4: Work (ch 3, 2 dc, ch 3, sl st, ch 3, 2 dc) all around the post of the first dc of the V-st.
  6. Petal 5: Ch 3. Work (sl st, ch 3, 2 dc, ch 3, sl st) all in the original ch-2 space of the V-st.
    This completes your 5-petal flower!

Crochet Pattern Instructions

Note: The beginning ch-3 of a row always counts as a double crochet stitch.

The Blanket Body

With your yarn, ch 89. (The pattern is a multiple of 12 ch + 5).

Row 1 (RS): 1 dc in 4th ch from hook (this counts as your first 2 dc). Work 1 dc in each ch across to the end. Turn. (87 dc)

Row 2: Ch 1. 1 sc in each dc across. Turn. (87 sc)

Row 3 (Flower Row): Ch 3. 1 dc in each of next 3 sc. *****Make a Flower in the next sc. Work 1 dc in each of next 11 sc. Rep from * across, ending the last repeat with 1 dc in each of last 10 sc. Turn.

Row 4: Ch 1. *****1 sc in each dc until you reach the next Flower. Work 1 sc into the V-st of the Flower (working between the 2 dc of the last petal made). Rep from * across, ending with 1 sc in each dc to the end of the row after the last Flower. Turn.

Row 5: Ch 3. 1 dc in each sc across. Turn.

Row 6: As Row 2.

Rows 7-10: Repeat Rows 5 and 6 twice more.

Row 11 (Flower Row): Ch 3. 1 dc in each of next 9 sc. *****Make a Flower in the next sc. Work 1 dc in each of next 11 sc. Rep from * across, ending the last repeat with 1 dc in each of last 4 sc. Turn.
(This row staggers the flowers from the first flower row).

Row 12: As Row 4.

Rows 13-18: Repeat Rows 5 and 6 three times.

Pattern Repeat:
Continue repeating Rows 3 through 18 for the pattern until your blanket measures approx. 60″ [152.5 cm] long. You should end on a repeat of either Row 6 or Row 14 (a solid sc row).

Do not break yarn! We’ll go straight into the edging.

Finishing Touches: The Edging

This two-round border gives your blanket a clean, professional finish with a delicate picot detail.

Round 1 (Setup): (RS should be facing). Ch 1.

  • Work 2 sc in the first stitch. Work 1 sc in each stitch across the top edge until the last stitch. Work 3 sc in the corner (the last stitch).
  • Working down the left side of the blanket, work sc evenly spaced.
  • Work 3 sc in the bottom left corner stitch.
  • Working across the bottom foundation chain, work 1 sc in each remaining loop. Work 3 sc in the corner stitch.
  • Working up the right side of the blanket, work sc evenly spaced.
  • Work 1 more sc in the very first stitch where you began (to complete the corner). Join with a sl st to the first sc.

Round 2 (Picot Border):
Sl st into the next sc (the center sc of the corner). Ch 1. Work 2 sc in that same corner space.

  • Picot. Work 1 sc in each of the next 3 sc. Rep from * all the way around the blanket.
  • When you reach a corner, work 2 sc in the center stitch of the corner from the previous round.
  • To finish, make a Picot, then work 1 sc in the same space as your first 2 sc. Join with a sl st to the first sc.

Fasten off. Use your yarn needle to weave in all remaining ends.
