Hello, fellow makers! Are you ready to add a touch of purr-fection to your everyday items? We’re thrilled to share a delightful pattern for a charming crocheted cat keychain, designed by the talented Nadezhda Shumorkina. This quick and fun project is perfect for adding a handmade touch to your keys, bags, or as a thoughtful gift for a cat lover. Let’s gather our materials and get started on this adorable little feline!

Materials

Main yarn – I used YarnArt Jeans 85, ginger
A little white yarn for the muzzle, I used YarnArt 01
Thin black yarn for detailing; you can use a simple thread folded in two
Safety eyes (or glue-on eyes)
Key ring and attachment as desired
Hook No. 2 or another suitable for your yarn
Sewing thread
A little stuffing

Abbreviations

ch – chain stitch
sc – single crochet
inc – increase
dec – decrease
sl st – slip stitch
dc – double crochet
rsc – reverse single crochet (back post single crochet)
popcorn – 3 dc with common top, worked into one stitch

NOTE: We use the reverse single crochet to form the paws in row 6. In this case, we wrap around all three dc from the previous row simultaneously.

Pattern Instructions

R1: 10 ch
R2: from the 2nd stitch from the hook 8 sc, 3 sc in the last stitch, on the other side 7 sc, inc (20)
R3: inc, 7 sc, inc, sc, inc, 7 sc, inc, sc (24)
R4: 24 sc (24)

In the next two rows, we form the paws. The beginning of the row is along the left side, slightly to the back. If the paws do not turn out as shown, add offset stitches or, conversely, unravel the necessary number of sc in the previous row.

R5: 3 sc, 3 dc in one stitch, 3 sc, 3 dc in one stitch, 16 sc (28)
R6: 3 sc, rsc, 3 sc, rsc, 16 sc (24)
In this pattern, for the reverse single crochet, we work around all three dc from R5 simultaneously.

R7: 24 sc (24)

When crocheting the muzzle, close both popcorn stitches and the sc in the middle with the main (orange) yarn. Each popcorn stitch consists of 3 dc.

R8: 4 sc, WHITE (popcorn, sc, popcorn), 17 sc (24)

After completing R8 or just before crocheting the ears, you can gently push the muzzle forward for more volume.

R9-10: 24 sc (24)
R11: dec, 7 sc, dec, sc, dec, 7 sc, dec, sc (20)

Stuff the keychain completely, do not cut the yarn.

Ears

Now, we crochet the ears one by one. Fold the piece in half and align the stitches. Each ear requires 7 stitches, the opening between the ears is three stitches from the front and back.

Start with the left: 3 sc, turn to the other side, (2 sc, dec) 3. Cut the yarn, tighten the opening from the remaining 4 stitches, secure and hide the yarn.

Right ear: attach yarn to the back side, skip 3 sc from the left ear, ch, turn to the other side, 6 sc, dec, (2 sc, dec) 2.
Cut the yarn, leaving a long tail for sewing the middle. Tighten the opening from the remaining 4 stitches, pull the yarn out at the base of the ear.

Sew the front and back sides together. You can immediately sew in the key ring.

Assembly and Finishing

Embroider the muzzle with thin black yarn. Nose – several horizontal stitches.
Glue the eyes directly above the muzzle, about half a single crochet stitch away from it. The distance between the eyes is one single crochet stitch.
Attach the key ring base or carabiner.
