- Row 12: 7 sc, dec, 8 sc, dec, 1 sc (18)
Insert safety eyes between rows 8 and 9, with approximately 10 sc between the eyes. Continue stuffing the head.
- Row 13: 18 sc
- Row 14: (1 sc, dec)*6 (12)
- Row 15: 6 dec (6)
Pull tight to close the opening and hide the yarn tail.
Neck
Attach yarn on the left side of Row 10 of the head (where you made the 4 ch).
- Row 1: 12 sc. This round will include 8 sc along the neck opening and 4 sc along the chains you made from the head. (12)

Back/Body
The body is worked continuously from the neck. Stuff as you go.
- Row 1: Crochet 5 sc (along the neck stitches), then chain 7. Next, working into the chain and continuing into the remaining neck stitches to form the body’s base, work an increase (inc) in the 2nd chain from the hook, then make 14 sc. (28 stitches total for this round)
- Row 2: 10 sc, (inc, 1 sc)*2, 14 sc (30)
- Row 3: 10 sc, (inc, 1 sc)*3, 14 sc (33)
- Row 4: 10 sc, (2 sc, inc)*3, 14 sc (36)

- Rows 8-11: 45 sc (4 rounds)
Front Leg (Make 2)
These legs will be worked directly from the body. Stuff firmly.
- Row 1: From the body stitches, work 8 sc, skip 30 sc, then work 8 sc (effectively creating the leg opening by skipping stitches in the middle of the body). (16)
- Row 2: 16 sc
- Row 3: (6 sc, dec)*2 (14)
- Rows 4-5: 14 sc (2 rounds)
- Row 6: (5 sc, dec)*2 (12)
- Rows 7-8: 12 sc (2 rounds)
- Row 9: (2 sc, dec)*3 (9)
- Row 10: (1 sc, dec)*3 (6)
Pull the opening tight to close. Fasten off and weave in ends.
For the second front leg: After finishing the first leg, count 7 sc along the skipped body stitches from the first leg, then attach yarn in the 8th stitch to start the second leg. Leave a long tail to sew any small gap between the legs later.
Back Leg (Make 2)
These legs will be worked directly from the body, similar to the front legs. Stuff firmly.
- Row 1: 15 sc (count 15 stitches from the remaining unworked body stitches after forming the front legs). (15)
- Row 2: 15 sc
- Row 3: 6 sc, dec, 5 sc, dec (13)
- Rows 4-5: 13 sc (2 rounds)
- Row 6: 5 sc, dec, 4 sc, dec (11)
- Rows 7-8: 11 sc (2 rounds)
- Row 9: (2 sc, dec)*2, 3 sc (9)
- Row 10: (1 sc, dec)*3 (6)
Pull the opening tight to close. Fasten off. Use the yarn tail to sew any remaining gap between the legs on the body.
Ears (Make 2)
- Row 1: 6 sc in MR (6)
- Row 2: 6 inc (12)
Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing. Fold each ear in half and sew them to the head between rows 4 and 5, with approximately 6 sc distance between the ears.
Mane
The mane is made in a series of textured chains.
- Chain 20.
- Starting from the 3rd chain from the hook, work the following sequence 9 times: (1 inc of 3 dc, 1 inc of 2 dc). (45 stitches)
Fasten off, leaving a long tail. Sew the mane along the top of the horse’s head and neck.
Tail
Similar to the mane, for a fluffy tail.
- Chain 10.
- Starting from the 3rd chain from the hook, work (1 inc of 2 dc) 8 times. (16 stitches)
Fasten off, leaving a long tail. Sew the tail to the back of the horse’s body.
Rocker
This is the base of your rocking horse. Stuff firmly as you go.
- Row 1: 6 sc in MR (6)
- Row 2: 6 inc (12)
- Row 3: (2 sc, inc)*4 (16)
- Rows 4-24: 16 sc (21 rounds of single crochet)
- Row 25: (2 sc, dec)*4 (12)
- Row 26: 6 dec (6)
Pull the opening tight. Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing.
Assembly and Finishing Touches:
- Sew the finished rocker base to the bottom of the horse’s legs, ensuring it’s centered and stable. You can also use a hot glue gun for a stronger hold if preferred for decorative purposes (ensure it’s safe if for a child’s toy).
- Double-check all sewn parts (ears, mane, tail, rocker) for security.
- Ensure the entire horse is firmly stuffed.
- Weave in any remaining loose ends.
