Creating the Flower Petals
This chain will magically curl into a rose!

  1. Into the 3rd chain from the hook, work 1 Dc.
  2. Into the next chain, work 2 Dc.
  3. Into each remaining chain of the Ch-14, work 3 Dc.
Christa’s Tip: Really commit to those 3 Dc in each chain! This is what makes the flower wonderfully full and fluffy.
  4. Ensure you work into the correct part of each chain to prevent stitches from slipping.

Finishing the First Flower (Strip)

  1. When you reach the last chain, work your 3 Dc.
  2. Sl St into the space between the “legs” of the very first stitch of your flower strip (the stitch you skipped at the beginning of the Ch-14), going under one strand.
  3. Ch 1 to secure. Cut yarn, leaving an 8-inch tail for sewing the rose.
  4. Pull through and tighten.

Flower Placement Strategies: Customizing Your Bouquet
How you space your flowers impacts the final look:

  • Every Other Post/Cluster: This is what I used for the large blanket, giving a nicely spaced floral look. (A “post” here refers to the stitch clusters of your blanket base).
  • Every Post/Cluster: For a much denser, more abundant bouquet.
  • In Between Posts (Near Leaves): Creates a lovely integrated look, with flowers nestled closer to the greenery.

Experiment to find your favorite arrangement! Repeat the flower strip process (Attaching, Petals, Finishing) for each flower according to your chosen placement.

Spacing Out Your Flowers
After attaching a few flower strips, step back. Are you happy with the spacing? Adjust now if needed.

The Magic of the Roll: Sewing Your Roses
Now, transform those flat crocheted strips into stunning 3D roses!

  1. Thread the last yarn tail (the 8-inch one) onto your yarn needle.
  2. Slightly unfold the crocheted strip. Identify the end that was closest to the hook when you started the petals (this will be the center bud).
  3. Begin rolling the strip up fairly flatly from that center bud end, keeping the straight edge (the foundation chain edge) aligned.
  4. Once rolled, insert your needle straight across through all layers, near the base, from where the tail emerges.
