Let’s Crochet Your Stingray! (Main Body & Details)
This pattern is worked in continuous rounds, which means you won’t join rounds with a slip stitch unless specified. Always use your stitch marker to mark the first stitch of each round to avoid getting lost!
Starting the Body (Main Color)
- Round 1: Start with a Magic Ring (MR) and make 8 single crochet (sc) stitches into it. Pull the ring tight. (8 stitches)
- Round 2: Work 8 increases (inc). This means you’ll make 2 sc into each stitch around. (16 stitches)
- Round 3: Repeat (Sc, inc) 8 times. (24 stitches)
- Rounds 4-6: Crochet 1 single crochet (sc) in each of the 24 stitches around for three full rounds. (24 stitches for each of these 3 rounds)
Time for Eyes! Carefully insert your 9-10 mm safety eyes between Round 5 and Round 6. Position them about 4-5 single crochet stitches apart, centered on the face.
- Round 7 (Working in Front Loops Only): This special round creates the base for your stingray’s distinctive wings and tail! Work the following into the front loop only (FLO) of the stitches from Round 6:
- Make 2 sc.
- First Wing: In the next 7 front loops, work (1 hdc, 1 dc, 1 tr, 1 dtr, 1 tr, 1 dc, 1 hdc). Remember, each stitch is worked into a *new* front loop.
- Make 5 sc.
- Second Wing: In the next 7 front loops, work (1 hdc, 1 dc, 1 tr, 1 dtr, 1 tr, 1 dc, 1 hdc). Each stitch in a *new* front loop.
- Make 3 sc.
- Tail: Now, for the tail, you’ll create a chain! Make 10 chain stitches (Ch 10). Starting from the second chain stitch from your hook, make 6 single crochet (sc) stitches, then 3 half double crochet (hdc) stitches.
Time to Change Color!
Switch your yarn color to white (or your chosen belly color) now. You’ll be working into the back loops from Round 6 to form the underside of your stingray.
Finishing the Body (Belly in White Yarn)
- Round 8 (Working in Back Loops Only of Round 6): Find the unworked back loops from Round 6. Working into these, repeat (Sc, dec) 8 times. (16 stitches) As you work this round, start to **stuff your stingray firmly** with fiberfill. Make sure the head and body are well-shaped.

- Round 9: Make 8 decreases (dec), then make 2 additional decreases to completely close the opening. Finish with a slip stitch (sl st). Make sure to add any final stuffing before the opening becomes too small.
Cut your yarn, leaving a small tail. Fasten off securely. Use your large-eye needle to weave in the remaining yarn tail for a neat finish.
