Crochet Pattern: Cute Duck Keychain

Materials:

  • Yellow worsted weight yarn
  • Orange worsted weight yarn
  • Small amount of black embroidery floss or two 6mm black safety eyes
  • Crochet hook size E/4 (3.5 mm)
  • Yarn needle
  • Scissors
  • Polyester fiberfill
  • Keychain attachment

Abbreviations (US Terms):

  • ch = chain
  • sc = single crochet
  • inc = increase (2 sc in the same stitch)
  • dec = decrease (sc 2 stitches together)
  • sl st = slip stitch
  • st(s) = stitch(es)
  • rnd(s) = round(s)
  • FO = fasten off

Instructions:

Head and Body (worked in one piece):

  • Yellow Yarn
  • Rnd 1: Magic ring, 6 sc into the ring (6 sts)
  • Rnd 2: Inc in each st around (12 sts)
  • Rnd 3: (Sc in next st, inc) x 6 times (18 sts)
  • Rnd 4: Sc in each st around (18 sts)
  • Rnd 5: (Sc in next 2 sts, inc) x 6 times (24 sts)
  • Rnd 6: Sc in each st around (24 sts)
  • Rnd 7: (Sc in next 3 sts, inc) x 6 times (30 sts)
  • Rnd 8-10: Sc in each st around (30 sts)
  • Rnd 11: (Sc in next 3 sts, dec) x 6 times (24 sts)
  • Rnd 12: Sc in each st around (24 sts)
  • Rnd 13: (Sc in next 2 sts, dec) x 6 times (18 sts)
  • Rnd 14: Sc in each st around (18 sts)
  • Rnd 15: (Sc in next st, dec) x 6 times (12 sts)
  • Rnd 16: Sc in each st around (12 sts)
  • Begin stuffing the head firmly.
  • Rnd 17: Inc in each st around (24 sts)
  • Rnd 18: (Sc in next 3 sts, inc) x 6 times (30 sts)
  • Rnd 19-24: Sc in each st around (30 sts)
  • Rnd 25: (Sc in next 3 sts, dec) x 6 times (24 sts)
  • Rnd 26: Sc in each st around (24 sts)
  • Rnd 27: (Sc in next 2 sts, dec) x 6 times (18 sts)
  • Continue stuffing the body firmly.
  • Rnd 28: (Sc in next st, dec) x 6 times (12 sts)
  • Rnd 29: Dec x 6 times (6 sts)
  • FO, leaving a long tail. Thread the tail through the remaining 6 sts and pull tight to close the opening. Secure and hide the yarn end inside the body.

Beak:

  • Orange Yarn
  • Rnd 1: Magic ring, 6 sc into the ring (6 sts)
  • Rnd 2: Inc in each st around (12 sts)
  • Rnd 3: (Sc in next st, inc) x 6 times (18 sts)
  • Rnd 4: Sc in each st around (18 sts)
  • Rnd 5: (Sc in next st, dec) x 6 times (12 sts)
  • Rnd 6: Dec x 6 times (6 sts)
  • FO, leaving a long tail. Slightly stuff the beak and sew it onto the front of the head, between rounds 7-11.

Wings (Make 2):

  • Yellow Yarn
  • Rnd 1: Magic ring, 6 sc into the ring (6 sts)
  • Rnd 2: Inc in each st around (12 sts)
  • Rnd 3: (Sc in next st, inc) x 6 times (18 sts)
  • FO, leaving a long tail. Do not stuff the wings. Sew them onto the sides of the body, around rounds 19-23.

Feet (Make 2):

  • Orange Yarn
  • Rnd 1: Magic ring, 6 sc into the ring (6 sts)
  • Rnd 2: Inc in each st around (12 sts)
  • Rnd 3: Sc in each st around (12 sts)
  • Rnd 4: (Sc in next 4 sts, dec) x 2 times (10 sts)
  • Rnd 5: Sc in each st around (10 sts)
  • FO, leaving a long tail. Slightly stuff the feet and sew them onto the bottom of the body.

Eyes:

  • If using safety eyes, attach them between rounds 7 and 9 of the head, approximately 4-5 stitches apart.
  • If using embroidery floss, embroider two small black dots for the eyes in the same position as you would place safety eyes.

Assembly:

  1. Weave in all loose ends securely.
  2. Attach the keychain hardware to the top center of the duck’s head using the yarn tail or by carefully inserting the base of the keychain and securing it from the inside if possible.
