Start with black yarn for the beak section:

  2. R2: 4 sc.
  3. R3: 4 inc (8 stitches). Change yarn to white at the end of this round.
  4. R4: 8 sc. Change yarn to the main color.
  5. R5: (1 sc, inc) repeat 4 times (12 stitches).
  6. R6: (2 sc, inc) repeat 4 times (16 stitches).

  9. R10: (1 sc, dec) repeat 4 times (8 stitches).
  10. R11–R50: 8 sc.

Finishing the body: Cut the yarn, leave a tail for sewing, and pull the hole tight to close. You can adjust the number of rounds between R11 and R50 to make the body longer or shorter depending on your tension. Shape the finished piece into a figure-eight form.

Wings (Make 2)

  1. Chain (ch) a starting chain.
  2. Starting in the second loop from the hook: work 1 sc.
  3. Chain 6, then work back along that chain: 5 hdc.
  4. In the next loop: work 1 sc, then a sl st.
  5. Chain 5, then work back along that chain: 5 hdc.
  6. In the next loop: work 1 sc.
  7. Chain 5, then work back along that chain: 4 hdc.
  8. Finish with 2 sc.
  9. Cut the yarn and fasten off.

Final Assembly

  • Eyes: Use black yarn and a needle to embroider the eyes onto the head.
